Out of nowhere as of Tuesday, after I boot my computer and start NS 7.1 under Win98SE I get this long delay while NS 7.1 gives me the message "Building summary file for inbox ". Then if I go to my sent folder it does the same thing for that set offolders/files. This takes about 4-5 minutes and has never happened before. Is it something new and necessary or is there a fix for this?

    Hi lgbest,

You may have a corrupt email. Go to your ISP's email web interface, if they have one, and delete any spam emails.

If that doesn't work, try deleting the msf files in your profile.

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

It usually leaves you to your own resources. Typically, on the hard drive drive you will files in sets of two, representing the mail itself in the file with no extention, and the one with the .msf extention, which is the summary file. That file can become corrupted, and should be deleted with the program closed.
Something must have gone awire. But do not hesitate to delete the .msf files only. Netscape gets it right, usually.
If do have not done that, I suggest you File|Empty trash, and then File|Compact folders. I would not be worried about what happened. I guess that the time it took may be related to the number of e-mails. In case you don't know the profile has different locations, with the Operating systems. http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/ns7profloc.html
