There is often a clip of sorts which holds the battery in place - look in your mobo manual for some clues. Otherwise get a good torch and have a really good look at the retention mechanism. Moderate force may be required - applied with care :)

Your PC's manual should tell you how. There may be some restraining clip that you have to first remove. You do not want to break that, since the new battery may then no longer seat properly. (If no clip can you find a very thin ***** driver, tweezer, etc. to help?)
You also should ground yourself and unplug the power before entering the PC's case.

P.S. You are going to have to figure out what the ***** stands for. You know, something like a nail with grooves. :D The Board apparently will not permit the word.

    Haha

But the Demos would say the board is abused, call the ACLU. Try to impeach the Manufactor calling it unethical for making the Battery do it's job. Make a documentary and blame president Bush and Halliburton. Then put a 50% tax on the batteries. John Karry would change his mind on the issue 5 million times. Good ol Clinton would try and take it out on a date.

    Just for fun.

    Who's that?

Are you positive you need to change your battery? In all the PC building I've done, I've never had one fail - even on 486s.

CMOS Batteries do have a life and can fail after 3 to 5 years. Certain laser printers used to cause an extra load on the Parallel port resulting in premature battery failure.

Deepesh, are you having a bad checksum or cmos problem that made you think the battery should be replaced? Or was it just a matter of not keeping system time? Or, something else?
