Does anyone know the procedure for replacing the CD/DVD drive in a Toshiba Satellite laptop?

Swapping out as in while the pc is running with the cd rom in you want to replace it with the dvd drive? If so, you should have the USB type icon in your systray (by the clock) to "stop and remove" either drive.

    Clarification

NO, sorry, I used the wrong nomenclature. I want to physically remove the drive and install a new one.

You'll probably have to keep unscrewing things till you get the cover off.

    From Toshiba tech site:

    INFORMATIONAL:

Only the memory, main battery, AC Adaptor and sometimes the CD/DVD drive can be user replaced. Check the User's Guide, which is available on-line. If the User's Guide does not tell how to install or remove the device then it is not user changeable.

    Service Parts

Toshiba does not sell service parts directly to end-users. If your Toshiba computer requires service and it is covered under Toshiba's Standard Warranty, or an extended or upgraded warranty, please have the system serviced by a Toshiba Authorized Service Partner.

If you need a replacement battery, or AC adapter for your Toshiba computer, please contact Toshiba Accessories at 800-959-4100.

You can purchase service parts (modem/ethernet replacement cables, printed circuit boards, display panels, drives, plastics, etc.) for in and out of warranty systems from National Parts Depot at 800-524-8338.

    Replacing Toshiba CD/DVD drive

Thanks everyone, looks like it has to be done by a technician. I might try unscrewing everything and see what I unearth.

Those things are like car panels. It's not difficult, if you know how!
