I have a Conexant Based D-Link modem its not getting detected in XP, what could be the problem, it uses a COM port to connect. Modem lights are on.

Did you install the drivers off the cd?

I had the same problem a couple of years ago.You will have to get the drivers for windows XP.
I tried using the generic modem driver,it did work but it kept on making the dialing up noise all the time which believe me would drive you nuts.

    xp drivers

I have found that you have to load new drivers on a lot of older hardware when you install XP

    The drivers were already loaded

The drivers were already loaded but i disconnected everything (external) and put it for vacation and now when i connected them again its not working, couls this be a SERIAL cable or port problem.

One way to help windows find it, is to remove it in device manager and then reboot. It'd be nice if you had the cd handy just in case.

Deepesh, try installing it on another computer. That would rule out a problem with the modem itself. If it works on another computer, then the problem will be in the drivers/Windows. You could try removing and redetecting the Com port drivers, but I haven't known this as being a cause.
