I have a full installation (custom) of MS Office XP, fully updated with SP3 from Microsoft. Everything works fine except Word "Recently Used File List ". This option in Tools/General is greyed out and I can't find a way to highlight it.

Any idea why it's greyed out and how to highlight it? Probally some settings in the registry but I can't find it.

    Thanks,

Hi, found this in MS Knowledge base. Applies to Word 2003 and Windows 2000/NT but should also apply to XP. Recent files list greyed out .

Have a look at it and see if it helps.

BTW I found it by doing a search of the MS Knowledge Base using the phrase: "Recently used file list" in the search for box. Link to search page is: MS KB Search . Make sure you select Word 2003 as the MS Product.

    Hi JohnB,

Thanks for the hint. I checked the article and, strangely enough, I did not have TweakUI nor Powertoys installed in my system. I then decided to install TweakUI, the old version, do the modification and see what happens. It worked fine and the greyout disappeared. Removing TweakUI did not change it.

Why it did happen in first place, I don't know. The MRUs are now in place in the registry, all is well. One of those Windows dogmas?

    Thanks for the help,

    Artur

Good news, glad that worked out. Thanks for posting back with your workaround. :)
