When it boots up it appears OK. just before it is ready to go to the desktop,
BLUE SCREEN comes up, saying its dumping pysical memory. This is so fast I can't read it all. I started removing the cdRom Drives, just have left the 1 wd hd,cpu, printer, memory stick, kb and mouse, monitor. If this is a hardware problem, what else can I do. Is there any diagnostics I can use to check this out?

I tried to start the computer with the modem and router power off, but wouldn't start.
Really need some help on this. Does it need any additional system ram??

Almost certainly a driver problem. Video is the most likely culprit.

Can you start in VGA mode?

    Donabano,
With these BSOD memory dumps you are probably using up a fair amount of harddrive where the OS is archiving these dumps. If your system is set for a full memory dump then you will be creating files the same size as your physical installed system memory.
The default size is probably set to a small dump of 64KB, but will slowly mount up.
Do a search from the start menu for *.dmp and delete all that is found. This will recover some space.
For most of us it's best to turm these dumps off. Right click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery and untick Automatically reboot and select None in the dropdown list.

Now to find out the cause. As Newt says looks to be driver related?

i'll second newts recommendation and add that in general that bugcheck will come from old, buggy drivers. Go through and update everything you know about. Grab all the windowsupdate recommended driver updates, and then go to the manufactures web sites for your other stuff.

    Dumps

    Paul

    1. I went to the advance files changed to NONE from 64 dump
    2. Went to winnt/Minidump and deleted all 64mb dump files..
    3. should i use the prog u r recommending. I have some: Reg Cleaner, Spybot S&D, Adaware, using emytrust antivirus prog, mailwasherpro. Do u recommend others I should try to use.

    Newt

When I set up this MB, I am only using the on drivers that came with the Intel board. However, I did discover when installing, then re-installing the video driver, it look ok until it came up with a failed message, bvut it still worked. If I cvan't get new drivers from Intel, do I need to instal a 3rd part agp card from elsewher?
Will this solve the problem, maybe?

Thanks for help Keep it up

    So Far So Good

    NEWT

Put all the hardware back together. Started up in safe Mode
    1. After I deleted the old graphics drivers, I did boot up in VGA mode OK.
    2. Went to Intel and d/l the newest drivers to my desktop, re-installed, Re-booted, and the drivers were picked up OK. It all seems to be working out. Hope it will continue. You gentlemen have been an inspiration to me. I am really learning a lot.
    Thank you again

    Donabano,
You won't find any dump files as you've turned them off. I think your problem is one of the driver updates you have done. You may have to back track. Being W2K you can't just rollback to a previous driver as in XP or W2K3. So I would uninstall the video driver and use windows update and let it check for a driver update. The windows update drivers are usually a revision or 2 behind the latest available, but Microsoft has done testing for compatability so may be more stable than a later release. Failing a Video driver issue it may be one of the other drivers. It's best to do multiple updates at a SLOW pace so it's easier to pinpoint to a problem install or update.

As for Reg cleaning options, yes I recommend those I have below. But wait till you get your other problems sorted out. It could be a registry problem that MAY benefit from a clean, but use the driver back track method first. When you get to registry cleaning issues. I recommend getting to know only a couple of programmes, as using too many can cause problems. Steady as she goes is the trick with PC updates, tweaks and maintenence. ;)

    Update of Drivers

    PAUL

I went thru all the drivers I could find.
    Word Perfect Office 2002 ver. 10--Updated drivers to SP3 from 0 sp's
Intel Pro /100 VE Lan from 6.1.3.0 to 6.4
Ran a check on all HP Drivers ...OK
    Intel Graphics Drivers...OK

I just booted it up twice and it all came back. I am going to  put all my components back and see if it is OK. Checking to see there is no hardware issue.

I'll let you all know if it continues to be OK

    Thanks again

    Help Help some more

    Paul
It came up again after I copied my POP3 to MSN . I went to f8 and went to the last good profile, and started up. It went OK, but Im still worried why the same message is coming up. Could the drivers be old from MSN or OE6. Updated OE6 from windows updates.
Maybe u can come up with some more things to try. Where am I going wrong?

    thanks

Have a nice July 4th, Here its raining very much

So I gather the system is up and running OK now?
Have you loaded W2K SP4? If not then I suggest you do, plus updates from windows updates after the sp4 install. If yes then maybe the following.

You may need to do a system file check with your OS disc in the CD drive. Problem is this can overwrite some updated system files with older original files and can muck up your graphics driver meaning you may need to load them again if the display reverts to VGA 16 colour mode.
Anyway from start/Run type sfc /scannow ( note the space between c and /)
Any corrupted or missing system files will be copied and hopefully not to many newer ones overwritten.

    Still A Problem

Went in this AM. First time it booted, all was OK. I looked around to update any more files from Windows and D/L Direct X 9.0b.
When it installed, it hung up with the same BSOD. Rebooted, same thing. went to change CMOS to CD, put the CD in and it went OK. Seems spotty. Did an analysis HDD defrag. Says 1 partition should be Defragged. I will do that later.
I updated all the Windows programs up to sp4+++
there is nothing to update in windows.
    Office 2000, maybe?

Could this be a a Hardware Problem, like a cable or a Power unit. Hearing some clicking noises when booting. Power unit, although cheap with case, it is new 400W.

I tried to do a BIOS Flash on the MB. It seems my MB is running P15, new update is P17, but it says I had a system error and wouldn't update.

    This is really killing me.

Should I still run a system check and try to find the problems?? Also, any other suggestions???
I wouldn't feel so bad if this was for me, but its for my daughter. She needs her computer.

    Thanks again

    Beats me,
A SFC can't hurt. If it were me I would check/reseat all cables and memory sticks, and finally reformat and start again. Sometimes a reinstall is the quickest option. ;) If you go this way I suggest using minimal hardware for the install. Unplug any external devices till windows is loaded and stable.

Sorry, this is one of those...

This is a double free on pool memory. Someone allocated memory, passed it around, someone freed it, then someone freed it a second time. As stated above, you have a bad driver, rollback, roll forward, just change it up. You'd be trying to trial and error the bad driver away. In order to make surgical progress on this sort of problem, you need to have the dump analyzed to determine who is freeing what kind of memory. This would generally be beyond what we could do for you 'on the boards'. You're best bet for a speedy resolution would be to give microsoft a call and have them set you up for, and collect a dump for analysis.

Joe meant to ask you where do I go to get the dumping information, or logs to send to them? do I go to system logs? I set the dumps to none, so I don't have any, do I?
    Need some help on this.

    Thank you

When you call microsoft, they will walk you through setting all that up the way they want it. Everyone has thier own preferred format.

To get a head start, follow the below article to setup for a complete memory dump and get a dump ready.

316450 HOW TO: Enable Windows XP to Capture a Complete or Kernel Memory Dump
