My son's computer (Winxp Home) had become quite infected with spyware. We've cleaned it up with tools like Ad-aware and Spybot, and it's getting in pretty good shape.

One remaining problem is an executable "armyplay.exe ". It doesn't get flagged by any of the tools for deletion.

I'm not sure of it's purpose, but it gets started with every reboot, sits in memory and every few seconds keeps grabbing 4K more chunks of memory. After an hour or so, it consumes all the real and virtual memory, and of course the system starts slowing down, error messages pop up, etc.

I can simply remove it's startup and end of problem. But does anyone out there know what this thing is, how it got installed, is it indeed spyware of some sort, etc etc?

    Thanks.....

The first thought with any .exe that behaves badly and is pretty much unknown has to be 'virus'. Maybe not but certainly possible.

RAV for an online full virus scan and cleaning if needed. Quicklinks in my signature has a link.

Thanks for both of you, Newt and ski123. After doing some more poking around, there were enough problems that I finally decided to scrap it all and reinstall winxp. And hopefully, my son has learned a lesson and will be more careful about how he uses his computer!! :)
