My System, for some reason, goes into walkabout mode on a fairly regular basis, maybe 3 or 4 times a day, and a number of the Icons in my System Tray disappear every time this happens. The only way I can recover them is to Restart.

Would anyone have any idea as to why this is happening?

I'd guess something is crashing Explorer.exe. Have you checked the Event logs when this occurs? Depending on the "View ", go to Control Panel > (Performance and Maintenance) > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer

    Hi Kevin:

I am at an age where it is not even a good idea to start reading a long book so, rather than do any troubleshooting, I simply upgraded to XP Pro, and it appears to have corrected the problem.

    Many Thanks for the reply.
