I just installed Netscape 7.1 (and since doing some reading on here wish I had waited for 7.2- it's a LONG download at 28.8) and I'm having some glitches surfacing. On one Bulletin Board that I'm a member of, using Vbulletin Version 3.0.0, I was able to enter the title of the post, but the 'Message' box remained gray and I couldn't post. I switched to IE 6 and posted with no problems. On Yahoo mail, I can read mail, but I cannot access any of the 'buttons' at the top of a message, such as 'Delete', 'Forward' or 'Reply'. I can access 'Next', 'Sign Out', and the other functions. I downloaded and installed Java with NS, and I have it enabled (but I don't know enough about computers to know if this is a Java problem or not). I switched from IE because of all the publicity about the security problems with IE, but a browser that doesn't function isn't much use either. I wasn't able to find this problem in reading through the BB, maybe it's an installation glitch? TIA!

Hi Dennis, welcome to WindowsBBS :)

I'm not sure about your bulliten board, but in the case of anything not working in Yahoo, it's your java. Netscape 7.1 will have you install Sun java, and many things in Yahoo do not work using Sun. Netscape 7.1 can be tweaked to use virtual machine, however it's tricky and any update requires re-tweaking.

Personally I got tired of all the tweaking and uninstalled Sun.

    Thanks, any alternative?

After I posted last night, I returned to that BB and again had the same results. It's configured much like this board is, the 'title' worked fine, but the 'message' block was the same color as the frame outside of it, and I couldn't post a message. Somehow by accident I got to 'quick post', and it worked on that. I can't help but beleive that is tied in someway to the java issue also. Are there no 'easy' remedies for this problem? If I'm going to have to run two browsers and switch between them for different sites, it pretty much cancels out the reason I went to NS anyway. And this after I finally got my wife (who is a major sub-beginner computer user) to buy into NS because of the security issues, and learn to use NS which was much like teaching a VERY old dog new tricks

It may be the way you deal with this, although I don't know a thing about VBulletin, and I have had a long feud with Yahoo since before they start charging for set up in Mail, as a POP3 account. Even my ISP is slowly reforming allowing NS7.1, or better, Mozilla1.7 to get all the goodies. Yahoo Launch simply will not allow me in from any of my non-IE browsers.
I have the latest version of Java, and it has no effect on my dealings with Yahoo-related sites. But, most lkely they accept only the Microsoft so-called Java. As you can tell, I don't like Yahoo.
Many sites will still not accept Netscape7.1, while they do accept( or are fooled by) Mozilla1.7.1. Netscape7.2 when it is ready to come out will be based on the latest Mozilla.

    It gets weirder...

I also installed the exact same NS setup on my laptop (an old 350mhz that basically I only use when I'm on the road, which isn't very often) which is running Win ME. This weekend I used it on Yahoo, and it works fine! You just have to love computers, next to women they're the most frustrating thing I know
