    Pop.mircx

I have an instance of Internet Explorer regularly appearing on the Task Bar with no visible window.

When I right-click the Task Bar and choose to maximise the window it appears as a blank window with no toolbars, etc. and no way to find out why it has appeared - no information whatsoever.

The title it shows in the Task Bar is a hyphen ( - ).

I can close it, but it reappears after a short time ( I haven’t timed it yet).

At the same time a cookie is created with the name ddm@pop.mircx.txt. I delete this regularly but it also reappears.

I have a broadband (always on) connection.

Can someone tell me what is causing this, is it "˜dangerous’, and what can I do about it?

stconal - Welcome to the Board :)

    Pop.mircx is spyware.

From Quicklinks in my signature download Ad-aware - immediately update it and configure it. Download Spybot and update it. Run both and delete all Ad-aware finds and all marked red in Spybot (green entries are usage tracks and may be optionally deleted).

In Spybot click on the immunize button and again on immunize (green cross) on the page which opens.

For further protection against such stuff download SpywareBlaster - update it and enable all protection under Quicktasks.

    Success!!!

    It worked.

I had run Spybot and Ad-aware 6 smart system-scan several times.

When I ran the 'customised' Ad-aware scan it showed 4 bugs with 36 'pieces'.

I deleted these and, so far, have not had a repeat of pop.mircx.

    Many thanks for your help.
