    Color me confused.

I have (as best I understand and could do) everything set up properly for Comcast/Netscape interaction. I never had this problem with Cox (which I had until recently). I am running N7.1, WXP and generally would like to avoide using OE like it was the plague, not the least because I cannot get it to not open emails even if I'm clicking on several just to delete them (no, I do not want to see a modern reinactment from the Kama Sutra TYVM!)

All the settings are correct (as per the thread 'Ramona having problems sending email through Comcast' from 2003, although I could not find the file which was being referred to that needed changing).

I can use Netscape to post to newsgroups and even to send email, but I have to retrieve it in OE. The Customer Service at Comcast isn't at all helpful, and although I believe the problem is on their end, because I am running Netscape they say they are unable to help me. (To which I say several words unprintable here  ). The reason I think it is on their end is because I keep getting the following alert dialog box:

"The PASS command did not succeed. Mail server mail.comcast.net responded: box locked."

    Help?

I pity you, having Cox, and, hopefully never having to struggle with Comcast.
It may have helped if you turned up the reference. But, I got several. Beside a funny, negative one http://www.dslreports.com/comment/1579/37869 I put together this from several complaining newsgroups.
smtp.comcast.net, make sure that this is the smtp for the mail account (hint: look at the Advanced, for the account). You are going to have problems if you have an AntiVirus program set up to scan your outgoing mail (AV takes over).
I did a Search, and came up with something which was not related to Comcast, though Ramona asked the question. It was to delete sent.msf file of your account folder, from the profile. Since, you don't specify the OS, I will give once more the link to Ramona's website. Take your pick, but I doubt that it is the problem. http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/ns7profloc.html

    Actually.....

I actually did figure out what the problem was.
I had typed something in wrong in server settings, but it was so close to what I was supposed to do that it just sat there and caused havoc...

I did however go in and delete the MSF files and that seemed to help too.

However now all my saved emails have gone missing.
Mostly those were things that I don't really care about (mostly word of the day emails), but there's an ongoing problem I was trying to resolve with someone in a fiction writing chatroom (where I'm running a round robin) and those are gone too. :(

    Leigh,

In Windows XP your files are hidden:
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders

Then look here for your Mail folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt\Mail\pop.ISP.net
