My computer has 19 Gig; I am almost out of space. I checked all my files and they only add up to about 11 Gig (games and Windows are predominant in the space category). Where else could the other Gig's be? I cannot find them, even after cleaning up the disk and getting rid of temp files. Any ideas?

What Operating System are you running?
How many profiles set up on it?
Have you done a search for music and picture files?
    Cleaned out your Unzip folder?
Went through Add/remove and uninstalled any unneccessary programs?

You may well not be counting hidden files and the Paging File (Swap file) - where are you getting the info on free disk space from? My Computer?

As Daizy posts - we need to know the OS.

Download EasyCleaner and search for 'Unnecessary files'. Delete them - they will go to the recycle bin and if everything still works OK after a few days, delete them. You may be surprised at the amount of space you recover!

While you're at it clear your Temporary Internet files.

I have 1.5 or so for Windows by clicking on properties, and about 10 Gig when I do properties on my programs folder. The other folders are small.

Hidden system files, system restore, etc...also take up room.
How much space is allocated for your temp file and System Restore?

How many profiles set up on it? I'm not sure; how do I check?
Have you done a search for music and picture files? Yes, I have about 500 meg of music.
Went through Add/remove and uninstalled any unneccessary programs? Yes.

    Hi JRG...

    - Right-click on "My Computer "
    - Left-click "Properties "
    - Select "Restore" tab
    - Click "Settings" button
    - Move slider to desired "Disk Space To Use "

The (at least on my XP Workstation) slider goes from 1 to 12% of your total Hard Drive space...so my 20 GB C: goes from 200MB (Min) to 2296MB (Max).

OK, I moved the restore to a much lower percentage and gained 2 Gig. There is only one user profile. By chance did the Win98 files get hidden somewhere when I upgraded?

Yes, If you elected to preserve your old system files when you upgraded they're still compressed on your disk. However, they usually take less than 100 MB of disk space. I think these backup files can be removed through the 'Add/Remove Programs' applet in Control Panel.
