I have to purchase a laptop for my Photographic Society and looking through the specs of our preferred makes I see that PS/2 ports are no longer fitted.

We need the use of a 'proper' keyboard to operate Photoshop fluently. As the laptops we are looking at have 3 x USB ports the thought is USB mouse + tablet + keyboard.

Any experience out there on USB keyboards vs wireless keyboards? I have no experience of either.

Would this be any help to you? Converts 2 PS/2 devices (Keyboard & Mouse) to 1 USB port. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse. I would not go back to wired. In the year and a half I had them I had to replace the batteries in the mouse once and not in the keyboard yet.

I have the Intel Wireless series keyboard, mouse and gamepad. The only part I use is the keyboard since I have a PS2/USB mouse.

The keyboard works flawlessly and there is no noticeable lag between key press and the characters dispalying on the screen. Battery life is excellent. Like Russ, I use my wireless keyboard constantly and have only replaced the batteries once in the last year.

It's one less cord to get in the way and I can stand ten feet back from my monitor and still type.

My keyboard works in the BIOS and outside of Windows without issue. The Intel set I have is no longer manufactured and is a few years old. I expect the reliability and stability of wireless keyboards has improved since I obtained mine.

I expect all of the wirless keyboard will have a receiver that hooks to the computer through a USB port. So I guess it comes down to which type of USB keyboard is more convenient - wired or wireless?

    Cheers,

    ICE

Wireless is the way to go.

I've been using Logitech's wireless mouse and keyboard, and the only difference between them and my old wired set is the noticeable absence of the wires. I wouldn't go back!

    Thanks for the feedback, guys!

Russ - found a Belkin device similar to the one you posted, but over here 3 x the $ figure in £'s.

As we have to buy a keyboard I think wireless is the way to go.

    Thanks again.
