I installed netscape 7.1 browser and setup a account. I am trying to access my netscape mail (user@netscape.net). I can access my email thru the browser i.e "My Netscape" - Mail.

I want to use the mail client i.e "Netscape Mail and newsgroups" to read / send mails. What are the server settings. I setup the outgoing server as "smtp.netscape.net" and i am able to send mails.

What is the setting for incoming mail server ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You will be set up automatically. In other words, you don't need to tell how to set it up. However, the trick is in the password. The set up is IM driven. If the password of netscape.net is different from that of the IM, you will have to enter the password of the IM account.
I hope I am making sense, because I don't understand it myself.

My IM password is same as netscape.net password.

Don't i need to specify incoming mail server in the incoming mal server settings ? Do you know what the incoming mail server is ?

:) HI to all !!!!! I'm new to this forum and was looking for an answer to my problem with netscape 7.2. The whole thing just stoped working and erased all my emails and bookmarks from the program !!! Yikes !!!! I was not able even to get conneted again to netscape's web mail. So looking for an answer I found your bbs and with all the ideas I read, I tried this and it worked for me.

I have a cd of Nestcape 7.0 so I went ahead and removed 7.2 and 7.1 without removing the profiles from the folders created by netscape originally, just removed the programs with the add remove from windows.

Then installed 7.0 from scratch and it found everything, even got me connected again to netscape web-mail.

Then downloaded 7.2 fron the web and installed it again from scratch, like it was the first time I did it and it recognized everything again from all the bookmarks and e-mails.

Again this worked for me this time, and even the program is running a little better than it was before. I hope it helps someone !!!!

So thanks to all the great info and I hope I'm posting to the right thread but if I'm not please let everyone else know what I found out.

Under Edit>Preferences>Mail & Newsgroups, General Settings, make sure you have checked "Use Netscape Mail as the default mail application ".

Then, under Edit>Preferences>Mail & Newsgroup Account settings, your outgoing and incoming server addresses should be set to/from your ISP; i.e., if your ISP was Earthlink: pop.earthlink.net and smtp.earthlink.net.

In the outgong server settings, also check "Use name and password" and enter your User Name as your email address.

    BirdieBob,
your suggestion is fine for any mail account, except for @netscape.net. Nothing needs to be specified, if Netscape Webmail is selected. Everything will be entered automatically, except that the entire thing is as flaky as it comes. I may remove one of my existing account, and see if I can put them back. But, please, don't judge Netscape mail, the client, from the problem of Webmail, which is totally separate and insane.

your suggestion is fine for Earthlink mail account, which needs SMTP authentication, or any other account, except that SMTP authentication is not needed. But a @netscape.net account is anentirely different beast.. Nothing needs to be specified, if Netscape Webmail is selected.
