 Has anyone ran across the blue screen on shut down titled (WINDOWS) w/this remark? an exception OE has occured at 0028:C000145Ein VxD___. This was called from 0028:C1834AA8 in VxD___.
it may be possible to continue normally. There are no #'s after VxD and one time the machine rebooted by itself. :( Thanks people.

When are you getting this error? Can you recreate it on demand?

Cant re-create it but it pops up on shut down and at times I just get a glimpse of it before the machine will auto. re-boot on its own. Then I just have to shut down manualy and go thru the registry fix drill.

Yes, it does. Even after running thru the registry "fix" and trying to do a normal shutdown

I used to get similar ones. Fixed it by turning off the computer and removing the plug. Open the case up. Remove and reset the ram. Once I did that, about 98% of my BSoD's were gone for good.

It may or may not work for you...

Back again. OK heres what happens. I turn the machine on and get a normal boot. As the screen paints with the icons I am notified that there is a problem with the registry, the machine will fix the problem. The little block with the red X disappears and the machine shuts down/reboots by itsself Then it gives me a blue screen with a message that tells me it will fix my registry. The machine runs the program and "fixes" the registry with a previous good registry??? Then it has me click on a restart box. The machine shuts down and then restarts in the normal mode of operation. I do my thing with online, pics., etc. No Problem. Untill-------------I go to shut down. I do the nowmal shut down from start and then I get a flash of Windows98 shutting down. Then the machine gives me the BSOD w/an exception OE that has occured at XXXXXXXXX in VxD____ called from another VxD and tells me that I may be able to proceed to operate properly with a key hit or ctrl/alt/del. Forget it, I dont even try anymore and just hit the on/off button.

Ok....we're getting a little closer to figuring this one out I hope.

How much ram are yo running? Have you tried taking out one stick at a time and seeing if it makes a difference?

How about running the registry checker tool?

Will follow your suggestions tommorow and pull the ram and reset also as suggested previously. Will also run the registry tool you suggested. Thanks for the help and will repost with the results good or bad as soon as possible. This machine has to be hooked up from another machine as it is a spare and have to use the mouse and keyboard and the monitor from another machine. If I ever get this cotton picker running I hope to send it to my daughter about 1300 miles away, I'll make sure she knows how I got it to work properly, back to you later.

Im running 192 MB RAM. Ran the scanreg/fix/opt and got rid of the first dialog box about the registry. Had to enter C:\ to put in himem.sys device before it would let me run scanreg. Now on shutdown 1st I get a flash of the 98 window then a flash of the BSOD then the joker re-boots on me. Have not removed the ram and reseated yet.

    Ick.

    Do try the ram.
Have you been in device manager? Any yellow splats? All updated drivers?

Can you give us some system specs? What all is installed for hardware on there?

Have you got all your critical windows updates done? Including the Windows 98 shutdown patch?

I went to the update section of MS and downloaded everything critical w/the exception of the update for IE. I can recheck to see if I have everything. I think I can check to see if the 98 patch was downloaded.
