Critical Update KB838358for WinXP Media Center

Critical update obviously did not load correctly. Am getting automatic notification of availability of same update each time computer is booted. Am guessing that initial download was registered in Registry but never successfully installed. If assumption is correct believe deleting pertinent Registry data would permit successful download of update. Query where to look in Registry for MS critical update information?

 

Do you have the uninstall folder for it listed in your Windows folder?

 

Critical Update KB838358 for WinXP Media Centger

Negative on the unistall in Windows folder. Have tried subsequent downloads and install but errors out with "installation failed ". Leads me to believe that there is Registry data that needs to be cleared before I can attempt another download/install. I may be woofing up the wrong tree but can't think of anything else that would prevent me from being able to download/install. Any ideas?

 

I've seen this mentioned and a fix for it but it's way too late now to do any serious looking around.

If no one beats me to it, I'll give it a try much later today.
