For the past month I have been trying to get an email message through to an email address in the UK. All my messages have been returned as "undeliverable: there is no one with this address at this location" yet I know other friends who use the address (which I have repeatedly checked for accuracy) with no trouble. It is a private domain. I will put the address here if requested.

    Can anyone help me?

    Lochinvar

Thanks for the response Tiny. Here is an example of the message I get when the mail bounces back:
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Your message

    To:
    Subject: Re: Test
    Sent: Sun Jul 04 01:06:07 2004

did not reach the following recipient(s):
    fjb@fjbergin.co.uk on Sun Jul 04 01:06:07 2004

The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message
was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient
directly to find out the correct address.
    <thor.ccservicesuk.com #5.1.1>
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

I checked the links and I am doing everything they suggest.

I have friends who contact the address I am trying to reach on a regular basis. Someone said the problem is at my end but my ISP says that is not possible and there are no issues between them and the domain address.

I am waiting for a response from the domain provider who I have searched for and found through WHOIS but am not confident they will reply. I have received an auto response which told me nothing.

I've sent them a test email from UK - we'll see what happens!

Almost 4 hours since I sent that email and it hasn't bounced back - yet. Normally fairly instantaneous.

I wonder if your email address is being recognised by the recipients server as from a spam source and is being bounced back.

I once had this problem emailing a guy on AOL in the States - for some reason my ISP was listed as a sourcr of spam on AOL and was barred, but the error message sent back did mention the word spam.

Thanks for testing the address Pete. I am not surprised it didn't bounce since many of my friends' messages to that addy don't bounce either. I have been singled out for special handling, it seems!

I did wonder about the spam blocker myself but am assured that that is not the cause by my UK contact. My ISP (Shaw Cable) also tell me there are no 'issues' between them and the UK provider.

I have run full virus checks, use Ad-Aware and SpyBot Search & Destroy on a routine basis. Deleted all references to the address in my address book (Outlook Express) and re-entered it, all to no effect.

I have tried to contact the address using Hotmail but that client is in such a state of disarray I can't even get it to send! Maybe I should try Yahoo.

This is a mystery inside a puzzle wrapped in an enigma.

Try setting up another email account with your ISP - most allow a number of sub/additional accounts - send from that and see what happens.

I already did that and sent a test this morning ... it bounced! Sheesh

Pete, do you have any way of getting in touch with the ISP noted on the "bounce" message I sent you? If you could and wouldn't mind doing so, I would very much appreciate it. Thanks.

I tried WHOIS and entered <fjbergin.co.uk> and it did find a domain owner.

I will do that - I have located ccservice in the UK, but it might help if I had your email address for their reference.

Would you care to PM it to me?

www.fjberjin.co.uk does not respond - Page cannot be displayed - even in the Trusted Zone.

Thanks for the effort, Pete. The address you used for Bergin is incorrect. It should be <fjb@fjbergin.co.uk>

I have also opened a Yahoo mail account and sent a test message. It hasn't bounced ... yet! Obviously, I want to solve this problem in my main account.

    Thanks,
    Lochinvar

Sorry - that was a typo in my post - the typed URL in IE was correct.

    Pete,
I wanted to let you know my messages suddenly and mysteriously started to be delivered! After you made contact with the receiver's ISP I received a msg stating he would look into it ... they must have found something and fixed it.

Thanks very much for your help,
    Lochinvar :D

Glad I was able to help! I must admit that I am surprised that the ISP actually responded - I hadn't really expected any response. Nice to know that some ISP's actually care about their customers. A breath of fresh air :D
