I tried it with backup into a *.pst file, but that does only import the contents of my personal folders.
What about all my email account settings, my mail rules, my newsgroup settings.
Do I really have to enter all of that manually by hand again?
Is there not a one click back up everything option?
Is this possible that MS has overlooked such an option, or am I too stupid to find it?

Is there any logical reason why MS after so many revisions of Outlook still has not included a one click backup?

I guess this is just too much to ask from a company like MS.

I believe the Windows XP move settings Wizard can do what you're after. It's not just for XP - comes on the CD - but I'm not sure if you have to purchase the software to use it. Might be worth having a look round though

    Good thinking cdrider.
Are you referring to trying the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" found in Windows XP System Tools folder? (Also can run this from the Windows XP CD... insert in cd drive, you will find it when it autoruns.)
You can find it on the CD by looking for "FASTWIZ.EXE ". The fastwiz.exe file easily fits on a floppy. You can run this file from a floppy in Windows 95 thru XP.
When you do a clean install of Windows, you are looking at HOURS of setting e-mail, ICQ, messenger, etc... up. This program after copying ALL of those settings from a machine that is ALREADY setup... will restore those EXACT settings on the newly installed CLEAN setup.

Office XP has a utility for transfering your settings to another computer. .pst files contain all of your data. If you go to slipstick.com it will tell you the various files you need to move save all of your rules etc. for the earlier versions. Your right MS didn't make it easy.

I recently did a partial file and settings transfer to a new XP box. But I was unable to get it to work until I upgraded to Win98. The Wizard checks for the OS and refused the request because I was running Win95.

When you run the wizard, it makes a new disk in A: that it tells you to swap to the old computer’s A:
