    Hi Leetech
Had the same problem myself. Best way of finding the older version, which might be a bit long winded. I put msn messenger 6.1 into a search and if you look in the results for a file that is 7.99mb in size, that's the old copy. You can still get version 6.0 the same way as well. If you come across a 5mb file, then don't bother because that turns into 6.2 after downloading.

    msn messenger 6.2.

As an afterthought for old versions of software.................
    Try visiting www.oldversion.com
There's loads of old programs for wiindows, like zonealarm, avg, messenger ( lots of choices) image programs and other utilities.

PS Leetech You'll find that 7.99 mb messenger 6.1 and below on that site

    Hi almalexia
thanks for the info, unfortunatly MSN Messenger apprently will not allow old versions to be Installed it always wants to Install the latest version.
So I have given up and reverted to Windows Messenger 5.0 which does not have all the features of MSN Messenger, however it does Work on Audio and Video!.

MSN Messenger audio problem is frustrating

My daughter is away at school and I would like to talk to her over MSN.Both she and I have 6.2 installed. Win XP,broadband cable connections.
However,at the bottom of the MSN screen where it says 'connecting',it never connects. I invite her to a conversation, she accepts; screen says 'connecting' but in a few seconds a message saying " conversation with Sara has ended" or a message saying "the computer you are trying to establish a connection with is experiencing a problem ". This same behaviour happens whether she contacts me or I her.
We both run Win XP's firewall.
Can MSN Messenger 6.2 be deleted and version 6.1 be installed instead? What do you recommend?

    Hi Terry L

Dont bother trying to get MSN 6.2 working with Audio its not possible due to various configurations of Firewalls stopping the Audio.

What I did was to Install Windows Messenger "5.0" on only one of the Computers, then I could have Audio conversations with others who have MSN Messenger 6.2. it works! you don't have as good facilities with Windows Messenger but it does work

Program alternates to MSN Messenger 6.2, with audio

Do you know of a program that is free for download that offers voice communication like MSN used to do? I would really like to talk realtime as I am too slow at typing responses I have been told.

    Hi

I have the same problems with MSN, although, after about.....30 tries, both people can hear each other...

You could try Yahoo! Messenger which i use, which is a good MSN-like instant messaging program, but has an audio feature that works!

    HTH,

    internet conversation program found!

I found it! Skype is a wonderful program, easy to install, register and use. It's beautiful and talking on it is as natural as having the person on the other end in the same room. It's free to use and I'm thrilled to have it. Both my daughter and I use WinXP,have broadband, and are behind firewalls. It's terrific!
