Unable to print page numbers Word 2002

In print preview in Word 2002, instead of the page number, I get {PAGE} instead. I have tried reinstalling Word and have also tried the Repair option. I have not uninstalled and reinstalled. Any help would be appreciated. A searce for normal.dot was unsuccessful.

 

Since Word depends on normal.dot for several things, there must be one. However, it's a hidden file so in My Computer, go to Tools>Folder Options>View tab and check "Show hidden files and folders," click OK. Search will then be able to find normal.dot.

How did you set up the page numbering? In Word 2000, it's under Insert>Page Numbers which opens a dialog box where you can tell it exactly how you want the numbers to be displayed.

 

Check your options under Tools>Options>Print Tab and make sure the box next to "Field Codes" in the "Include with documents" section is UNCHECKED. I have Word 2000 but should be same for 2002.

 

Unchecking the field codes did the trick. Thanks for the help.
