cpu goes on and on and on

Reported this march of 2003. Solved the problem then with spybot, and adaware. However my cpu says 0% usage, but the memory, and cpu graph keeps moving. I am installing a new dsl line, from Verizon. I installed the control panel startup and eliminated some startup icons, but still having the problem.

The computer has an Intel MB D845GEBV2L, 1.7 cel, Ram 256MB, 40 gb HDD

Is this causing problems?

start~run~perfmon.exe and you will see tools to let you find out very specifically what is causing the memory/CPU activity.

Went there but i dont quite understand how to set this up to check and see what and how to look for what i want.

From the picture below, click on the + sign, select Processor, then pick several counters to display. It will add them to the ones you already see but probably better to remove all the others to reduce clutter.

You may have to play around with specific counters but you want to watch for any that run at a fairly steady pace and then go sorta crazy when you take an action.

 

Seems to have slowed down on the graph. I will continue to monitor it
