    microsoft internet explorer

    hi

    wasnt sure whether to put this in here of not but all of a sudden i keep getting LOADS of pop-up ads from microsoft internet explorer is there any way i can stop them as they are driving me crazy :mad: i seem to be spending most of my time trying to get rid of them.

    What operating system? Is there a title of any kind on the popup? Is it from the same place every time? Have you run any spyware removal tools such as Spybot and Ad-aware?

    Yes, like XP, ME, 98. I'll assume you have XP since that's what you mentioned. First check this. Right click the My Computer icon on the desktop and select manage. Click on services and locate Messenger in the list. Right click on the entry and select stop. Right click it again and choose properties, then set it to disabled and apply. Close it all up and tell me if the popups stop.

    Right click the desktop and select new>folder and name it HJT. Click the CWShredder link in my signature and scroll down to Official Downloads. Click HijackThis and save it to your Desktop\HJT. Open the folder and double click HijackThis.exe, then click scan, then save log. Once it is saved it will open in notepad. Select all from the edit button, copy and paste the results here. Don't fix anything with it yet! Someone experienced with the logs will tell you what/how to fix.

    Sorry if I'm being too basic with the instructions. Just want to make sure you understand. ;)

    Make a new folder, best place is in Your my documents folder, call it anything AntiSpyware is a popular name.
    Close hijackthis if its still open, go here
    http://radiosplace.com/

    and click on hijackthis.exe then choose save and save it to that new folder

    then start it and scan then save log, close hijackthis and paste the log in your next reply here

    As a first step (this is optional , highly recommended)
    Otherwize most likely after we get things cleaned up you'l be right back with more problems :)

    Uninstall P2P Networking through Add/Remove Programs.While off line. If/when asked whether you also want to remove Altnet components, say 'Yes'.
    P2P Networking is a totally useless Kazaa add-on, and it's been reported to be responsible for serious system slowdowns.
    Subsequently remove the P2P Networking folder in C:\Windows\System, if still there.
    and the allthenet folder to,C:\Program Files\Altnet

    I suggest you also uninstall Kazaa, and any others that are not noted as
    being spyware free in this acticle

    there are better free programs out there

    If any of the uninstallers prompt you to restart the PC do so

    Also In addremove programs Uninstall wintools and mywebsearch

    Then run disk cleanup, go start programs > accessories >system tools >disk cleanup. check all the box's and let it do its job
    and also go start run type in temp, select all then delete the entire contents of that temp folder.

    Then Please restart the PC and come back then make/post a new hiajckthis log

    Fist Downloadand, then close all open windows and run CWShredder 1.59.1

    Click Fix, don't just scan. You have several CoolWebSearch components which it should remove.
    If you already have it, just download another copy and overwrite the old one..
    To ensure its the latest version. currently its ver 1.59.1 as of 6/28/2004

    Then restart the PC


    It appears you didnt run disk cleanup ? please do that


    Also Fix this please then post another log
    Otherwize if a mistake is made there will be no backups :)

    for some reason my disk clean up is taking forever to do anything :rolleyes:

    when you say first download and close all windows what windows do you mean? i know i sound stupid but im useless with comeputers sorry.. ive done the last thing with the CWShredder but cant get the scan disk to do anything could i have done something to it?

    and i am not having anymore annoying pop-ups from microsoft yay!!! thank you :D

    I done remember suggesting scan disk, buts that a good idea, let it finish its job.
    disk cleanup Might take a a few minutes, if over ten then cancel out and tell us,

    Before you run cwsredder close all open windows and program's, like any that show in the taskbar. then run it and click fix not just scan, after its done restart the PC (its important to have all browsers closed first and even folders)

    So if you have already ran it do so again(it cant hurt)
    reboot/restart
    and Post a new hijackthis Log

    Ok after this run disk cleanup again but dont choose to compress file's

    Start Hijackthis and place a check next to these items, then
    Close all browser windows and shut down all other programs that show in the taskbar. (even Folders)
    25 items be sure you got tham all

    Then Hit fix checked.

    Restart PC find and delete (ONLY THESE EXACT) files and folder's,
    Be very carefull if your unsure leave them be.
    Set windows to show hidden file's, folder
