I've read some interesting articles about MOM (PCPro & Grey Matter HardCopy) and am going to download the beta . It looks like a very useful and reasonably priced app.

Anyone had a play with it? and what do you think?

Obviously not a popular post

I know I should have done this earlier but while waiting for the beta to download I read through the installation instructions. MOM has to be installed on a Windows 2003 Server. Perhaps I'm getting too old but throwing together a Windows 2003 Server to play with meant this project went from something I could do in a spare evening to a major project.

I've got a couple of Windows 2000 servers I want to monitor, and putting in a new server (actually more likely to be a desktop PC running Windows 2003 Server) just to monitor them seems like a lot of effort and extra cost, and I'm certainly not going to upgrade a server to run MOM unless it is really good.

So the project's on hold until I have a good reason to start playing with Windows 2003 server.

I do hate it when Microsoft put restrictions on their Back Office apps that enforce them being installed on the server version of their OS. I'd like to know what it is about this software that makes 2K or XP Pro unsuitable platforms - let alone why it can't be hosted on 2k server.
