    Hi,
I have this problem with Outlook Express only since I upgraded to IE 6 from 5.5.
What happens is I do not use Express as my regular E-mail program. When I do receive a attachment sent from someone using express I can not open it and when I try to use express to open it a error message tells me that express is not installed correctly and that I should re-install express. The same message comes up when I try to open the Address book. I can receive mail in express but not send mail, I have no problems in my regular e-mail programs I use 2 one for good mail and one for junk mail.
How do I reinstall express as it tells me to do, or what else can I do.
    thanks

    Hi,
before doing anything further, search you hard disk and backup all *.dbx files and *.wab files. That will make sure you wont lose any thing.
Outlook express is part of IE. So, if you reinstall IE, it will reinstall OE too.

When OE upgraded to 6, the securoty feature blocks all attachments by default. But in this case you wont get any error message, it only tells you OE blocked your unsafe attachment. And it can be easily done by go to
Tools->Options->Security and clear the check before "Do not allow attachments.... "

    To reinstall IE, go www,microsoft.com/ie
If you get an error message telling you that there is already a higher version IE installed, you have to read this:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318378
    Method 2. (I think you r using 2000 because you have IE5.5)
It is modifing a value, not deleting. Make sure you understand the article.

You do not need to reinstall OE, just check the option as posted by Mirror.
OE doesn't open ZIP, JPG, GIF or EXE files, that is why you got the error message. It will open an EML file.

    Hi,
No, that is not the problem, unchecking the security tab not to open attachments was the first thing that I did. I also get the error message when I try to open the Address book it tells me Unable to open Address Book it may be incorrectly installed. I can't send e-mails out, incoming is ok.
Sorry I should have mentioned this is in 98SE. I installed IE6 from the MS free update CD.
But I have a feeling that it is the same in XP I did the same there when I installed SP1.
    I have CD's with IE6 on it.

Looks like your windows address book is damaged. You can try
    Start->Run->wab
    to confirm it.
If so, you may look for *.wab files on you hard disk.
And in the same folder, you may have a File ????.wa~. Delete the file have another try.
If still not good. I think you have to reinstall OE6.

    hi,
I have done the wab test and the Address Book opened up ok.
Also today my Outlook Express allowed me to send e-mail out, and the problem there was Sygate the Firewall there must have been some problem there as when Express is asking for permission and I allow it, it works.
Also the Forwarded Attachment opened up.
Thank you again for your time to help, next time I will look at the Firewall first.
