I am getting a runtime error when trying to open a program. The block I get says (runtime error 429)
    (ActiveX component cant create object)
Can anyone give me an idea as to where to get a fix for this or give me advice?

    Thanks

The program is called PC doctor. One of the other guys put me on it for a registry error in blue screen that wont let me shut down in 98 because of a VxD call I posted earlier on the BBS. Thanks for the help.

Sorry friend, no joy, went were you told me and updated scripting controls, re-booted, same problem. On top of that, now the critter wants to re-boot itself when I use normal shutdown. Any other ideas greatly appreciated. By the way, I updated the machine to IE6, if that means anything.

There is a system file or two that may be corrupted here. Try using the System File Checker, Start\Run, type in SFC and press Enter. It should be ready to go, just click on the Start button in that window. I would not be surprised if Setupx.Dll comes up as corrupt, if so replace it. Have the Windows CD handy, or your setup files may be copied to the C:\Windows\Options\Cabs folder.
Do you have Fast Shutdown disabled? Start\Run, type in Msconfig, and press Enter, click on Advanced tab. You'll see the option here, post back if the selection is greyed and checked.
