I have had my share of blow driers.
Im done with AMD until they figure out how to make them run cooler.

I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe and a 2400 Barton with a sub zero cooler sitting on the shelf because I got tired of being run out of my computer room from the heat.

Buy yourself a 2500+ mobil for $90, throw it on that Asus board and get out your sweater. You'll soon become the room's sole provider of hot air.

    :p

    Got an air conditioner?

    ssmith10pn,

That's not the real problem. Either remove your long johns, or make sure the heat removed from the computer is disipated, like open a window.

    :D

Dude! I live in Montgomery Alabama. It's mid to upper 90s in the middle of the day with 75 to 95% humidity. You don't open windows unless you are cold. :p :p :p

Dude! I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It's mid to upper 90s in the middle of the day with 5 to 10% humidity. And we don't even have air-conditioning! We use these wimpy evaporative coolers that waste a truckload of water and sort of keep you cool.

But they'll have to pry my AMD cpu from my cold, dead hands! :p

    Amen!

My itty bitty out-of-date AMD outperforms big bad and brand new Intels, and I wouldn't consider going any other way than AMD. Been doing some more homework, because I'm building the beast this month. I appreciate everyone's comments and suggestions. When I have my revised list worked out, I'll post it.

btw, heat seems to be the biggest issue with AMD, thanks for the tips.

    Pentium uses bigger fans.

The heat problem goes with clock speed, and is definitely not limited to amd.

    Mr/Ms SSmith10pn

Glad to hear you coming around to the AMD camp - I'll assume you read the article you referenced. No doubt you've been reading countless others as well, touting the FX's, Opterons and Athlon 64's that are out there today and extolling those that are on their way. Nice to know you understand what's really going on.

Hey, didn't Intel just pull the plug on their latest technology? Something about it not being worthy of further developmental investment? Hehehe .... Think AMD performance an architecture had any influence on that decision?

    ;)

Don't know if he/she was out of the camp, only seems to dislike the high temperature output (waiting for the camp's climate control to be fixed? :D).

SSmith10pn, just something I wondered, have you done a BIOS upgrade on your Asus mobo. I have had some successes with reducing temperatures, but with Gigabyte boards.

    It's He ;)
    My name is Scott Smith

I had a current bios in it when I pulled it a year ago.

I love my 3.2 system as seen in my signature.
    My wife's 2.8C idles at 26*c

My 3.2 is sitting here at 38*c with a clock speed of 3360.16 Mhz :D :D
    That's 210 x 16

Try this out for cooling your AMD Sizzler.

I just put into my computer the best thing for heat problems with any I MEAN ANY processor. I just installed a water cooling system. I started with a regular 125$us Posieden water cooling system and made a couple of mods (my little Secret) that included a vga water block and north/south bridge coolers. Now my Athlon runs cool as Micheal Jackson in the mid 80s. The only thing that I can say is the installation is it is not for the faint of heart. The Posieden comes in a complete sealed kit. To add the vga and bridge coolers took some work. Had to drain the coolant out of the system then cut, splice, and install some new tubing. After that mounting was kinda of a hastle. It was hard to keep the blocks mounted properly on the chips. Next was trying not to crush the CPU while tightening the brackets down. Well thats about it and I hope that is helps some one out on their cooling issues with the blazing AMD chips.
