Exe was short for example. Do the procedure twice for one that says name is already taken, three times for the next and so on. I have not tried it on anything except what is on the desktop shown by my screenshot. Well except for C drive, notice quick launch at end of bar.

Open TweakUI desktop tab and rename Recycle Bin from there.

    Hi richmusick:

I downloaded tweakui. It says this:

"Start Power Rename and add files to the Power Rename list by dragging and dropping them from Explorer or from your Desktop, or by clicking Browse. "

Works great for everything except doesn't work fo the Recycle Bin?
    What am I do wrong?

Also, is there a way to remove the arrow on shotcut icons?

run treakui for xp. open Explorer... Shortcut to open Arrow options.

Right click Recycle Bin... create shortcut.

in tweakui, Desktop... under desktop Icons, uncheck Recycle Bin.

The recycle bin will hide but the shortcut can be renamed. such as 0160 to blank name.

I should have mention on my last post... I already had a shortcut for the Recycle Bin, I just need to remove the arrow and hide the original Recycle bin.

You said: "run tweakui for xp. open Explorer... Shortcut to open Arrow options "
I'm lost, I start tweakgui, open Explorer I can easily make a shortcut of something I can see but I don't see "Arrow options "?

"in tweakui, Desktop... under desktop Icons, uncheck Recycle Bin. "
Lost me again, I'm not able to drag/browse the desktop into tweakui... how do I get the desktop to show in tweakui?

In looking at your earlier post you mention using Power Rename. The site where you must have found that suite called "Creative Element Power tools" has in the yellow box below it a download called "Power toys for windows XP" that includes tweakUI ver 2.0 "

Power toys is a Microsoft release and I don't install all; but after the download I deselected all except TweakUI and the DOShere that interestes me.

"Creative Element Power tools" was written by someone else and I don't use it. I am waiting for Tweaking Toolbox XP to be released that may well do all that we have been discussing.

With TweakUI ver 2.0 My earlier post will make sense..

Yo peops, there is an unanswered question out there. I have the same problem, to wit, the rename alt/0160 works only once (for me). I seem to recall that this tweak worked with w95 with also the same limitation. Do you know a way to get multiple uses of 'it'?

    I hope so, thanks Ed

I repeat the alt0160 twice for one, three times for the next and so on......

edit: so the file name would be alt0160alt0160, alt0160alt0160alt0160 etc etc ...

Yes thank you! that works and in addition, you can copy the numeripad string to the clipboard & then use cntrl +V; 1, 2, 3, etc. times, & on & on-- I just did eleven and I'm not finshed yet but, I wanted to say thanks. To do it this way, the sequence seems to be; open a notepad or =, (with numlock on) hold alt down & type 0160 on the numeric keypad, (the cursor will move but nothing will be visable), highlight the invisable writing, do cntrl +C (to copy the invisable string to the clipboard), right click any icon and if 'rename' is available on the context menu, click on rename and the do cntrl +V once, twice , thrice, etttttc., then, when you've cntrl +v'd the appropriate # of times, press enter & viola! Once you've done this (or at any other time) you can right click on the icon of choice, click on properties and in most cases, on the properties dialog, there will be a "comments" whatchamacallit wherin you can type anything you want & have it appear as a tool tip when you hoover your cursor over the now undressed icon. ou-ou-ou what a little fiddilin will do-uo-uo! Ed

    no icon color

right click My Computer, left click properties. Click on Advanced, then performance. Uncheck " Use drop shadows for Icons.
    That should do it :)
