    Hi

In my RegCleaner I noted the following new registrations in my WIN 98 Registry:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Preview\Z~‡~wv’‡â€ZRf

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Dynasoft\2984972206319606

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Jetstream\IWClean\1.0\Microsoft Management Console 1.2

I have not been able to link them to any new programme installed recently.

    The latest installation was Diskeeper.

Could anybody explain how and why they were put into my registry.

    Regards

    Hi noahdfear

I have read the paper you refer to but I am a bit confused. Why is Dynasoft linked to Diskeeper and what is Dynasoft doing?
Regarding Preview I found out that strange value is also found as a value under the string ...\Dynasoft\2984972206319606.

None of the registrations have been found by either Adware or Spybot.

    What is IP Software/web server?

    Thanks for further elaborations :)

    Regards

My best guess is that Diskkeeper is a Dynasoft product. Jetstream possibly in use by your ISP. Did you do any recent network configuring/additions/upgrading?

    Hi Dave

The only installation I have done recently was unstalling Adware old version and installing new version. So no network configuring/additions/upgrading.

Let's see what some of our other colleagues may contribute. :)

    Hi Mariola,

Looking back through this, I see I misinterpreted the information. I was looking for a connection between Dynasoft and Diskkeeper. The thread I linked to, I see now, only shows that Diskkeeper was multiplying her Dynasoft entries. Further searching shows that she didn't know what the Dynasoft software was. This is what I've come up with.

All I know to tell you is search the drive for files. Dynasoft, Jetstream and Preview. When/if you find it, maybe you'll be able to identify it.

    Hi Dave

A search does not give you any hits on Dynasoft, Jetstream and Preview. They only appear in the Registry.

Hmmm......I would check for related DPF's. IE tools>internet options>settings button in TIF section>view objects, delete any found, then delete those keys, and any others found, after first exporting them. If no problems surface over the next few weeks, delete the exports too.

    Hi Dave

    What does DPF stand for?

Under Objects I do not find any recent file names which refer to Dynasoft or the others.

By the way I asked Diskeeper the question and got following answer:

"I don't have a list of all the registry settings for Diskeeper but I did find similar settings in my own registry. My guess is that they could be setting for the registration application that we use. When you install Diskeeper you get the option to register. One of the options is 'Remind me later'. If you select this option you will get a pop up message from time to time to remind you to register. If you select Never Register it stops the program running. "

    which made me reiterate:

"Please note that the registry registrations were done in connection with the Trial version where you were not asked to register.
I don't like to have registrations on my PC, of which I don't know the origination. Could you have somebody find out if Diskeeper has something to do with Dynasoft and Jetstream. "

If they revert I shall inform you about the result.

    Regards

Downloaded Program Files.......ActiveX controls placed on the system to allow certain programs to install/run, such as Shockwave, Flash Player, Windows Update. Often installed by things a person doesn't want too.

Glad you got more info about the Preview entry anyway. Appreciate any further findings. I'll keep looking too. :)

Just had an afterthought. You earlier said you found a relationship between the Preview and Dynasoft entries. So either Dynasoft is related to Diskkeeper, or the Preview entry is different from the one related to Diskkeeper.

    Yes  I agree.

As you said, the funny value was found both under Preview and under Dynasoft.

We will see what else comes up.

    Hi Dave

I got the following reply from Diskeeper:

"Dynasoft has something to do with the trialware timer. Jetstream as doesn't have anything to do with Diskeeper. "

    My next question:

"So I could delete Dynasoft and Preview without causing trouble with my final version of Diskeeper? "

and as expected it resulted in the following reply:

"Normal precautions for editing the registry apply. I would suggest that you back up the keys to a .reg file at the minimum. "

    So this I will do.

It seems we may close this tread unless you have something to add.

If not, I thank you for your participation in my troubles :D

and hope we may all :)

    Regards
