    Hi there.

I just bought a laptop second hand that came pre loaded with windows ME.
I just installed Windows 2000 on it instead but i had to start the installation from windows because i cant boot from CDROM. This means i couldnt format the partition and had to make do with doing a dual boot and converting all data to NTFS.

Now that 2K will be the only OS i wanna use on the laptop i need to know:
    1. Is it safe to remove the stuff in program files from the ME installation ( i need the space on the small notebook HDD, is there anything else i can delete like old windows ME directories?)

    2. How can I remove the dual booting option at startup, i just want it to go straight to 2K.

    Thanks in advance.

If you did the 2K install to another folder (WINNT maybe) then it is perfectly safe to delete the ME OS partition.

The file that controls your boot options is a text file in C:\ named boot.ini. Hidden/system/read-only but you can set it to accept changes and just remove the line that deals with ME. Careful though since if you mess up this file your PC won't start properly. If you can't boot from CD that would create a major problem.

Why can't you boot from CD?
