    Does anyone know how to turn the indexing feature off

    Open Control Panel, click on Performance and Maintenance, then on Administrative Tools, then on Services. Scroll down to Indexing Services and right click on it. Select Properties from the pop-up menu. In the Startup Type box select "Disable" from the drop-down menu.
