Hello, I have a problem with getting rid of a file On my Win98 Desktop, I download what I thought was a game Demo from www.twocows.com , The file was "CarnivoresCS-dm.exe
Now I cancled the download process, and Now when I click on Delete, It pops up a windows saying that I dont have permission to delete this file. Here is what it says exactally

Cannot delete CarnivoresCS-dm: Access is denied.

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected
and that the file is not currently in use.

I get this every time I try to delete this program. Now Iv'e ran "msconfig" to see if it was in there, plus pushed cntrl alt delete, and this isnt showing up anywheres. Any suggestions to how I can get rid of this File?
I have even helded down the shift button, and nothing seems to work, used clean sweep on this thing, still nothing....

    Hi RBJamerson
Welcome to the boards! Have you tried deleting it from safe mode?

    How about DOS mode?

There are also a couple apps:

    MoveOnBoot
    Dr. Delete

You might want to run scandisk, too, in case the file structure is damaged.

    RBJamerson--
Have you looked for Carnivores in Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs? Might be possible to uninstall from there.
Otherwise, if you never did complete the install, perhaps you should go back to tucows, install to completion, and then see what will permit uninstalling.

I'd go along with with Abraxas.....download and try MoveonBoot, it often works.

To get rid of the file write down the file name reboot into DOS mode. Now at the command prompt type deltree c:\Windows\Desktop\filename

filename being the name of the file you want to delete

It's been awhile since I used Win 98 so the path to the Desktop folder might not be right if so you will have to find it.

Deltree is a powerful command and should do the job.

Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
