I have two hard drives, and am wondering can I install a second copy on the second hard drive. The first hard drive has an upgraded version, but is full of bugs. So I'm hoping with a fresh copy it should work fine. Whats the best way of going about installing XP on the second hard drive.

    Thanks,
    Paul

You can do it two ways:

    1) Boot into your buggy copy of XP and run the install from CD. When it gets to the part of the text-mode installation, simply point the install to your second hard drive.

    - or -

    2) Boot to your Windows XP CD-ROM and point the installation to the second drive the same way as above.

Once the second copy of XP is installed you will get a boot menu at system startup asking you which OS you want to boot into. In your case both options will say "Microsoft Windows XP <version> ". If you want to change the text of the boot menu to be able to tell which one your booting to, go to your boot drive (C:) and edit the boot.ini file the way you want the menu to look.

    Yep got some problems.

If I try installing in XP, I choose new installation and it works ok, and reboots into the dos version, but when it asks where to install to, all it has is my current c:\windows copy of XP, and I can't choose the new drive partition. I tried making the partition active in partition magic, but it still won't find it.

When I try to install in dos it either takes AGES to setup the actual installation then fails saying a certain keyboard file cannot be found, or it says the EULA (end user licence agreement) cannot be found, whatever that means. The error depends on how I try to install through dos.

    Any ideas?

    Paul
