Does anyone know how make your MSN contacts appear in the address book for outlook express?

They appear in the contacts list, but when pressing the "To" button when creating a mail, the address book only show the addresses I have put in manually.

I could put all my MSN contacts in manually, but they appeared in my contacts list automatically, I therefore assume that they can be added to the address book just the same?

I haven't had to do anything before, they just appeared in there, but after reinstalling my poota, they ain't playing ball.

    Anyone know anything?

    Cheers!

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but figured you could give it a try.

Open Outlook Express, Open a new message window, click on TO. When the Selected Recipitants window opens click on the drop down menu under the find box and change to Main Identity Contacts.

    HTH. :)

Main identity's contacts already selected, tried other option (shared contacts), nothing in there at all.

Drag N Drop em..It's the "GREAT EQUALIZER "

Digitalis. Just open the Address Book and use the old Drag and Drop routine. You can either do a "Select All" or you can select only the ones you want by holding the Ctrl key as you click each one, just like you normally do.

    Regards

In what application? I tried this in outlook express, but when I click on the MSN contacts, the address book minimizes, and I can't drag them anywhere anyway.

Go to Outlook Express > Address Book > Shared Contacts > and highlight the contact/contacts (right side pane) you wish to transfer > right click and select Copy. Then highlight the Main Identity Contacts folder (left side pane) and right click and select Paste. Of course there are many other copy/paste methods such as using the Toolbar commands, etc but this is the general method.

Zephyr-I think we have some crossed wires, the msn contacts appear nowhere in my address book, not even in shared contacts.

The do appear in the "contacts" window on the bottom left of the main screen, below the folder window.

I want to put them into my address book, but I have no idea how to.

I do appreciate the time you are taking to help me, but I think I must have explained my problem incorrectly.

I realise that I can use the contacts window as a quick way of sending an e-mail, but I would like them in my address book too, as it is easier/quicker to forward any mail by clicking the "To" button, which as you probably know, opens the address book.

    Any other suggestions?

I think Zephyr was thinking along the same lines I was, that you were trying to combine your shared contacts with your main contacts. After reading your post again I understand that your Contacts list somehow differs from the listings in your Address Book.

In trying to find a solution to your problem I've looked at several different systems and in doing so found that the Contacts Lists in these systems all contained the same entries as their Address Book. In reading through the help file for OE on this topic it appears to me that the contact list is derived from the address book, so I am at a loss to explain why yours are not the same.

Out of curiosity, How many contacts do you have that don't show up in your address book?

Are you using a shared computer and if so does each user have their own address book?

Thanks for wasting so much of your time on me.

I'm not using a shared computer.
12 MSN contacts in "Contacts ".
2 have made it mysteriously into the address book by themselves, but in the address book, they don't have the MSN icon like in "Contacts ", but the same icon as manually inserted addresses.
I've not added any contacts in MSN since reinstall.
MSN was installed after outlook express.

I hope that I have just answered any questions you may have needed to ask next, I have absolutely no idea how to "migrate" the MSN contacts over, I appreciate an help you can give.

I think I just figured out why there are 2 MSN addresses from "Contacts" in my address book, the 2 contacts are the only ones to have been signed in while I've been online since reinstall (...and possibly with outlook express open at athe time.)

Does this ring any bells with anyone?

    Here's a thought...

Perhaps those two are the only ones you have replied to and when doing so, OE automatically puts them in the Address Book. Is that a possibility?

If so, you could send out a confirmation reply (or blank messaage) to cause it to happen on all. :) Kinda corny but it might work. Try one first and see maybe. I'm guessing you would reply by highlighting a message in CONTACTS to do the test.

    Nope, didn't work.

I'm quite positive that these 2 contacts have been the ony ones to sign in while I have outlook express open.

I haven't sent them/replied to any messages since reinstall either.

I don't suppose there is any way to simulate a contact being online?

Try this. From the Address Book click on Tools, Synchronize Now. Let us know if this helps.

I tried synchronizing, a window appeared "Connecting to hotmail server ", then "Gathering Contacts Information ", Finally "Synchronizing contacts ", it counted backwards fom 12 down to 1 (12 MSN contacts), then it added 5 of the contacts other than the 2 that were already in there, 7 in all.

So I thought-start fresh- cleared my address book and tried again, smae process, but absolutley no results, no contacts in address book at all. I think I made it worse(if that's possible).

    I'll try again afer reboot.

    Cheers.
