Am looking at a couple 64mb PCI graphic cards and one has 64bit and the other has 128bit. What does the difference in bits give one. I know memory part of it but not sure on the bit part.

    Thanks.

An explanation here of 64 and 128 bit colour, but this is not to be confused with 64 bit or 128 bit architecture in the video card chips - aka Win XP 32 bit and Win XP 64 bit I think. See also here in Features.

    HTH rather than confuse :D

Thanks the info is what is was looking for pretty heavy reading though. So really if I read it correctly as long as the user is not a gamer then the 64bit graphics should be sufficient. True not true ??? Do you have a preference between the jaton or the evga cards ???

I understand 32bit vs 64bit architecture technology being that I come from the old DOS world of years back.

Yes. You'd have to work hard to find a modern video card that would not be fine for most users who use their computer for office apps, internet and basic games.

However, if you are into 3D games (first person shoot ups for example) a good video card can make a very big difference. I'd even go so far as to say that if this is the case the video card is THE most important piece of hardware in the PC.

I'm a graphics person - Photoshop and can't remember the last time I played a game!! Not the best to advise on graphics cards for anything other than the mundane - very happy with my Matrox G550 dual head with 32 Mb running two monitors @ 32 bit colour.
