Acrobat 6.0 > Removed preference from having PDFs opening within browser.

Wish to have it open in the Reader application, but PDF links just open a browser page with the icon in upper left corner of browser window and Reader does not open.

Any suggestions to get PDFs to open in the Reader rather than the browser, please?

BruceKrymow--I think, but may be incorrect) that you have to have given permission for ActiveX controls to run to be able to open and read a .pdf file directly from the web. Since my normal Security settings do not permit this, I download the .pdf first and then open (per suggestion in Daizy's reference). No apparent need for ActiveX then.
I also find that if I have Norton Antivirus Auto Protect enabled, it takes much longer for Acrobat Reader to open than if I disable it.

Hi, you two...thanks for the replys. :)

That is the issue....I have deselected the in-browser option and it should open in Acrobat's own application.

I checked the browser settings and activeX is allowed to run and download for signed controls.

Yes I get that with my security settings - I simply add the site to the Trusted Zone temporarily and Adobe Reader happily fires up in the browser window.

    BruceKrymow--
Ah, but there are three more ActiveX settings to set. "Run ActiveX controls and PlugIns" is the key. If Disabled, you will not see .pdf files when run from the Browser. Set to Enable or Prompt.
What PeteC suggests (add to Trusted Sites) sets "Run ActiveX controls and PlugIns" to Enable by default.

    Hi, Welsh ~

As mentioned previously, the activeX controls on my unit are all enabled except for unsigned.

    BruceKrymow--
Now you know I would not dispute such a statement, but I am looking hard to find it. :)

Opening Acrobat Reader with XP Home

    This worked for me:

As well as making sure Active X was turned on, I went to the General Preferences in Adobe Reader and clicked the "use single key accelerators ... "

I picked that up of another website so hope it works for you.
