Hi. Can any one please tell me how to determine the size of my PC processor.? I am using W/98 SE. When it is warming up ,it say's that it has 233hz's. All the new PC's talk of 2.3 Gig / 2.6 Gig / etc , my PC is 6 years old and I was wondering if it will run XP. I have only had W 98 for 6 months, and would like to update to XP & Office 2003 pro, I had some USB ports fitted and 128 m card installed when they cleaned it out and loaded W98. I couldn't load 98 over my 95 because I have a internal modem.
Any advice would be very helpfull. Thanks Des.

Your CPU is a 233 mzh. The new ones like 2.3 would equate to 2033 mzh. XP will probably install but will be pretty slow...

    Windows XP Upgrade Advisor

"Microsoft posted their Windows XP Upgrade Advisor tool for download on their Web site. The Upgrade Advisor is a tool that checks your system hardware and software to see if it is ready for upgrade to Windows XP. If you run Upgrade Advisor while you are connected to the Internet, and if your system needs updates that are available on the Windows Update Web site, Upgrade Advisor will find and install the updates for you. IT's not just your processor speed that needs to be considered. It looks as though you'll struggle with RAM too. XP will run on an 128Mb PC, but it will be slow - I'd recommend at least 256 Mb, especially with full Office. Also how much hard disk space do you have. XP plus office will take more than a gig and PCs of that vintage commonly only had 2Gb hard drives.

I think you should consider a new PC if you want to work with XP and Office 2003 regularly. If that's your main target, any current PC will do - you don't need an expensive PC. In the UK you'd be able to get a suitable PC for less than £400.00.

Hi, Steven R. Thanks for your reply, I guess I will have to update but being on the pension it's hard. I checked the update adviser and they sat it is a large file for dial up.
My mate has a new PC and his is 533mhz and seems to run XP & office Pro OK. Thanks again Des.

Hi. Reggie B. Thanks for your reply also , I have a 3.2 Gig H/drive with 98SE & office 97 , Publisher 98, Photo shop 7, With heaps of photo,s etc and it is only 55% full. It is a bit slow when playing downloaded Mah Jhongg & Diamond Mine ( the sound is distorted also0. I guess I will have to just carry on as is. Thanks for the help Cheers Des. :)
