    hi

    i'm doing a little trip down memory lane and have purchased an old game from 1992.
    specs read:
    386,486 machines
    2mb ram
    vga graphics
    dos 5.0
    etc.

    as i'm running windows xp at 1.2g and 512mb of ram, i think the game will run a bit quick, if at all.

    any suggestions, i.e emulators or slow down programs etc.

    also, have noticed that ems memory needs enabling. is this done through config.nt and the emm line?

    if so, what's the exact syntax?

    the game needs the following:

    device = hemem.sys
    dos = high, umb
    device = emm386.exe ram
    buffers = 20
    files = 30

    what about the "_default.pif" specs?
    should ems be put to auto or 1024 etc ?

    First thing I'd do is try the game and see if it works as is.

    When you get it installed and a desktop shortcut created, right-click on the shortcut and set the game for compatibility mode and the oldest OS version option you have.

    DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
    DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE
    FILES=50
    BUFFERS=30

    The above is what my Config.sys looks like.

    It is needed for a couple of OLD DOS Games. But also they ( the games and the config.sys ) were already there and working before I upgraded to XP Pro. ( XP went over 98SE )

    Also the suggestion by Newt about setting of the Shortcut may be needed too.
