I need some help with a shutdown script (bat file). I need to run an 'ssh' command (using plink.exe) to another machine upon shutdown of my XP machine. It appears to me that the XP shutdown script is run after the network is turned off. Assuming my observation is correct, is there a command(s) that will bring the network back up so my 'ssh' command can run? TIA.

Wouldn't be easier to just have a shortcut to the batch file and run it before shuting down?

I doubt you'll be able to shut down....ooops bring the network back up.....run the batch file.....ok, now shut down the network connection and the pc....

    Thanks for the reply.

The problem is, shut downs are unattended; initiated by my UPS software. There are no exits or anything else in the software I can find that I could use to detect that a shutdown is imminent. Ironically, when I shut down manually, generally I don't need to notify the other machine.

I don't know. I never heard of it until now. It is not clear if it will work with a shut down initiated by my UPS software (the implication is that it runs when shut down is selected from the start menu). I guess I'll have to try it and see. Thanks.

That's why I didn't post that it would cure your problem but that it might and (free app) looked worth a try. I think it will all depend on what the UPS stuff is using to trigger the shutdown.

I'm curious though about why the UPS is shutting you down so regularly.
