I am having trouble getting my address books back.

By following some instructions to 'others' that I found on this site,
I now have all my old email back. :)
I did have to reconstruct the 'filters'.

my C drive had to be reformatted and I had to reload everything
my old profile information is available.

when I put a 'new card' with the first name 'adbcxyz' into the new
Personal Address Book - and then try to search for any file with that string in it nothing is found.

I currently have the following *.mab files in the *.slt folder in the active profile:
    abook.mab 8 KB 5/26/2004
    history.mab 19 KB 6/1/2004
    impab.mab 58 KB 12/19/2002
    impab-1.mab 24 KB 12/19/2002
    impab-2.mab 81 KB 6/1/2004
    impab-3.mab 26 KB 5/15/2004
    impab-4.mab 11 KB 1/12/2003

any ideas about how to get these files to show up in my address books?

they are available, just not being used.

    Greetings,
    One of several options:
With all instances of NS closed ( including Quicklaunch)

    1. Re-name abook.mab to Xabook.mab
    2. Re_name impab.mab to abook.mab

Open NS Address book window -Personal Address Book should now show the contents of the "old" impab.mab.

If this is not TRUE please post back.

If true - Based on the contents - CREATE A NEW ADDRESS BOOK with an name of your choice.

Select Personal Address Book in left panel
In right panel - select all entries (Ctrl+A) and drag to the NEW book you created in left panel and drop.

Verify that the NEW book contains the entries.

    If True - Close NS - delete abook.mab - rename impab-1 to abook.mab
    and repeat the steps above.

When ALL boooks are tranfered, re-name Xabook.mab to abook.mab to regain original book.

Let me know how it goes.

If this is not TRUE please post back.

After changing the names and reopening Netscape, choosing the desired profile, and opening the Personal Address Book.
I still see the same listings - -

these listings include a card with the first name 'abcdxyz' that doesn't register a hit when I search for that text string in any file in my Docs & Settings or under Netscape in the Program Files.

    Ned,

    Very strange indeed.

Please create a NEW address book named TEST.
This will create a file named abook-1.mab
Do a find file for abook-1.mab to verify that we are looking in the right place.

    please post back.

    captjlddavis :)
    found it!
    hooray

I was looking under the 'wrong' user.
Perhaps my 'very long folder names' or something else, keeps windows 'search' function from working properly all the time.

I think I can recover any address book that I need now, thanks to your help!

You have some really great info on this board and have helped me tremendously. I'll check back in occasionally!

    What a relief. :D
