I had a hard drive failure, purchased a new one and I'm now in the process of putting things back.

Before the failure, I had XP setup files copied to a partition on my Hard disk. Just checking to make sure I have this right. The setup files for XP Home Edition Sp1 are in folder I386. I copy this folder to my HD.

Now to change the setup path, since XP was installed from the CD, I forget where in the registry I change the setup path.....it's going to be on my E: drive.

    Thanks in advance!

My Regedit shows three paths to my CD drive where XP was installed.

    • Installation Sources............REG_MULTI_SZ..........G:\
    • ServicePackSourcePath.......REG_SZ....................G:\
    • SourcePath.......................REG_SZ....................G:\
The XP setup files are on my E:\ Drive thus.....E:\I386

Do I simply change the three G:\ drives (my CD drive) to E:\I386?

I proceeded and changed the three G:\ paths to E:\I386.

When I install a windows component, it prompts for the source files. It lists the source destination as E:\I386 E:\i386. I have to point in back to the E\:I386 path a couple of times before it finally continues with the installation.

I wonder what's going on here.

As previously stated my XP setup files are located on my E:\I386 drive.

    I also followed these instructions:
