I'm not actually too much of a newbie, but, I have never been able to figure out how to stop programs from loading at startup.

On most of my computers, I can just go in and run msconfig. That, of course, doesn't work in XP PRO.

Is there a way to prevent programs and so forth from loading in XP Pro?

Any help you could give me would be much appreciated.

You can get to them in MS Config. But I find TWO little utilties from Mike Lin (www.mlin.net) to be a boon: Startup Control and Startup Monitor.

Startup Control is an application that will allow you to turn things off and on. It will install to the control panel. I put a shortcut on the desktop.

Startup Monitor is slick. There are many applications when you use them will try to sneak themselves into the bootup. Startup Monitor will tell you so you can head these critters off at the pass.

    How do you get there

How do you get to msconfig in XP pro. I have tried doing that in the run line, and it won't come up.
