Have AVG Free version 6.0.707 installed on kids w98 /300 HMz /128 MB computer. Can the / is their a "priority setting" option for virus scan. When it kicks in, computer is almost maxed out... would like to lower priority. With kids on summer vaction, their really is no "not in use" time and wife can use it to late hours. Currently set for "dinner time "... but summer schedules change like the weather.

    Staff ...
This is a security program, but not a security issue..
move to "Other Software" if appropriate. thanks

You could disable Scheduled Scanning, there isn't a setting for priority that I am aware of.
In normal operation, AVG scans files as they are opened anyway. For an added measure, check the box for Heruistics, then click on Set as New Defaults. This allows it to check for code that may be similiar to the virus code stored in it's definition tables, and set for scheduled update at least every two days.

    Thank you Mark

Had Heruistics ticked previous, will disable daily scan. Never download files on kids computer, IE locked down very tight, OutLook, OE not setup with any ISP. A few of the well known "kids sites" have "trusted site" status. In addition have "Parent Filter" active to prevent any naughty site viewing (3x teenage sons still at home) + AdAware + SpyBot + SpyWareBlaster.... and last but not least.. two different programs to provide "password protecting" any file / any program(s) launches. Currently MSN Messenger is locked down. Kids felt summer vaction included time off from chores. Few times a month, will manually call a scan... when the kids are busy terrorizing each other.

You may be interested in the IEspyads.Zip link down below in my signature. It will put a hundreds of known 'bad' sites into your Restricted Zone, worth looking into and is free.
In the Restricted Zone, just set to Disable everything, if Disable not available then use High, password to prompt, and these sites will not be able to put so much as a cookie on you. It will not prevent you from going there, being visible to you is all that will happen, these sites like to be third party anyway.

Thanks for the tips Mark.. few questions. Does IEspyads require to be loaded / active to provide protection? If yes, resource needs are low? Kids 300 HMz / 128 MB computer is just tuggings along as it is. Just dropped out "WinPatrol" from active list... upgrading SpyBot 2.x to 3.1 / Teatimer.exe to monitor any REG changes / programs trying to install in the background (Kerio also monitors, but on XP only). When I locked down IE 6.0x, I used "Enough-is-Enough ". Will go through Restrictive Zone and see if I can live with 100% disable/password... kids ALWAYS let me know... why won't this work. :D

    UPDATE
Sorry Mark, should have clicked your link for IEspyads... A REG and zone setting tool to control IE. If I guessed correctly "Enough-is-Enough" is the tougher of the two... which I installed previously... thanks ... still will check restrictive disable.

It isn't exactly a program that you run, the download consists of REG files. A REG file is a way of putting information into the registry or editing information without opening Regedit.
When you double click a REG file, you get a prompt 'do you want to merge this information into the registry', if you click Yes, you then get a message that the Merge is successful.
Nothing will be added to the startup.
You mentioned that you have put some sites into the Trusted Zone, this is another way to add sites, but these are going into the Restricted Zone. Another thing to know is that windows will not allow a site to be in both Zones at the same time.

If nothing is in the Restricted now, doing those settings will have no affect.
One thing, if a message appears that ActiveX controls are disabled and this webpage will not display properly, just click on OK and not worry about it.
ActiveX has nothing to do with what you see on the page, this is how things are installed by a website, and how a website runs a program on your computer. Windows Update is a prime example on this.
This will not affect Windows Update, or Macromedia Flash and Shockwave, or any other legitimate website. I use this myself.
