At one time I found instructions on how to add a folder to the left pane in the "Save To" window.(Right click on a graphic & a window comes up) Now can't remember how I did that...and can't find any info on it now. Can anyone "re-enlighten" me?
    Thanks so much!

(Was hoping to attach a screen shot but that feature is turned off in this post.)

You have to be a contributing member to post screen shots (or any other pictures).

Put a shortcut in Documents and Settings\username\Send To for any option you want added to that menu.

Sorry. I don't have any such option on mine and can't search up any info so no help.

If no one else chimes in feel free to get a screen shot and email it to me. Be happy to see what I can figure out. If nothing else, I can post the pic for you.

TweakUI for XP allows you to add "custom places. "

In TweakUI, go to Explorer>Common Dialogs, enable "Custom Places Bar" and either choose one of the defaults in the drop-down lists or type in the full path to the folder you want to add, click OK when you're done.

That's IT!!! Thank you, Thank you! I was beginning to feel as tho I was in the twilight zone....no info on it anywhere. Of course if I had used the correct name "Custom Places Bar "....I might've had better luck. :p

    Thanks again!!!

Please correct me if I'm wrong but, as an alternative, if you can upload a picture or screenshot to a website, you can include a link to it in a forum post, contributing member or not.

Good thought Jim. Next time I have the need I will remember that.
    Thanks!

You certainly can do that Jim. The link will display as a link rather than as a thumbnail or picture but it will certainly work. So a good work-around for anyone with access to web space that will allow hot links.

Also, see my other post (#6 in this thread) regarding thumbnails.

RE: your reply on .png. Would that format be better for emailing graphics??

    Thanks

The only possible answer to your question is "maybe ". :)

First, a word (or several dozen) about .jpg, which has the advantage of offering many different levels of compression, virtually none of which are suitable for archival purposes. .jpg is a "lossy" format ... every time you edit and save an image you lose detail. For email, though, it may well serve your purposes. If you want to send an image of baby's first steps, though, upload a high detail image to a website (assuming that you can) and send a link to it.

I do a lot of image editing, and use a number of different programs to achieve different ends but, assuming that you're starting with a .jpg image, ALWAYS save it as a .bmp or .tif before you begin to edit, so you don't lose detail. When you're done, you cans save back to .jpg.

Irfanview, which Newt suggested, is a good all-'round program ... it's constantly upgraded, has numerous editing features, and has the advantage of being free. Once the editing is done, though, my favorite program for resizing and compressing images is the $39 shareware Image Optimizer, which permits you to save an image in .gif, .jpg, .png, or .tif formats, and allows a great deal of control over the amount of compression.

I'd suggest that when sending pictures via email, you use a width of no more than 800 pixels. That will cut your image down to a manageable size, but experiment beforehand with whether .jpg or .png best suits your needs. If the image is largely black, white, and shades of gray, .gif might be best.

In a nutshell, there's no hard and fast rule that one format is superior to another, even for email.

HTH. If you need more info, please don't hesitate to email me (click on my username ... JSS3rd ... for the link).

    Hi dirtysouthryder.

    - Create a desktop shortcut to your E drive.
    - Copy that shortcut and paste it in the c:\Documents and Settings\username\Send To folder (assuming your OS is on C:\ )
    - Delete the desktop shortcut to reduce clutter unless you need it there for some reason.
