For the past two weeks I have not been able to access my netscape mail account at all, neither could my husband (we have two separate netscape accounts). We can't read, can't send, can't even see the messages. Only when we log on through the web version we can check our account.

However, I have the same set up (account settings/server settings) on my work computer for that same netscape e-mail account - and that works just fine. I compared all the server settings, port number, outgoing SMTP settings between the home and work computer - they are identical, but for some reason I can't access it at home. We uninstalled the old netscape, installed it again (7.0) - still doesn't work. Meanwhile, I lost all my bookmark folders and the address book.

Do you have any idea why it suddenly would stop working at home, but still work elsewhere? I would greatly appreciate your help!

    thank you in advance,
    sagacious

    Welcome to the Forum, sagacious!

    Hi sagacious,

Since you are able to access your Webmail at work, but not on your home PC, then we assume that there could be an error in your setup.

What setting do you use for SMTP?

Totally useless. The mail stuff is in the profile, as well as bookmarks, and address book so you must have done something extra. Take a look at Ramona's NS for profiles. http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/ns7profloc.html

As for your account, if it is indeed Netscape Webmail, there could be several answers.

    SMTP settings

The SMTP settings were set by default as follows:

    smtp.netscape.net

The server settings were: mail.netcenter.com (I think) - I can no longer see those settings on my home computer, because when I try to use the wizard to set-up the account from scratch, it takes my username and password and goes until "connecting to server" part and then after trying to connect for 5 minutes, it tells me the following:

"Mailbox Creation on Webmal Server Failed.
Sorry, webmal server could not create a mailbox for your Screen Name at this time. However, we successfully registered you for all several other services like Instant Messenger, Calendar and MyNetscape. Please visit webmail.netscape.com to complete your mailbox creation. "

I went to that website, and it is just a webmail log in page - in Spanish!
Meanwhile, at work, my server and SMTP settings are identical - and everything works.

I did find the netscape user profile files on my C:/documents and settings/user/application data... But I don't know what to do with them - I am a beginner in this, and will not delete anything.

    Please give me more guidance.

    IP address AND netscape problems

    A hypothetical question:

Can my IP address have anything to do with this netscape mail problem I've been having?

    Hi sagacious,

No, your ISP has no effect on Netscape Webmail. AOL owns that Webmail Portal, and Netscape only offers the capability of accessing Webmail from within the Mail & Newsgroups component.

What you describe sounds as if Netscape is setting up an entirely new Account. Have you tried deleting the Cookie for Webmail? Do that and see if if helps.

    Edit | Preferences | Privacy & Security | Cookies
    Then click on Cookie Manager

Look for any Cookies relating to Webmail, and delete them. Clear the Cache, then try to access your Webmail.

    You can clear Cache in
    Edit | Preferences | Advanced | Cache
    Click on: "Clear Cache "
