I have no idea where ZI should post this question but will try it here.
I have recently bought a new sound cardd which I installed and works fine on my computer. I had an integregated one before and have disabled it in the BIOS.
My question is now I cannot get any sound from my internet. Like when I have cards sent to me or if their are any games could anyone help me with this problem? I have all kinds of things on my hard drive which should play theses sounds such as Quick time and things like that.
Would appreciate it if anyone could answer my question. Thanks

Maryelle, what OS are you running and what type of sound card do you have?

With the following I'm pressuming this is the location of your settings based on typical windows configuration.

Have you looked in the Control Panel > Sounds and Multimedia > Audio tab? Is your card listed/selected in the Sound Playback > preferred device dropdown box?

    Post back results.

Open the speaker icon in the lower right hand corner to be sure you have nothing muted there besides the mic. Also take a look at options, properties, playback and make sure you've got check marks in all the boxes.

I have been checking out things that have been mentioned I will now tell you exactly what I have done. First of all when I installed the sound card I had gone into the BIOS and disabled the sound in the integrated peripherals. But for some reason was still getting another sound in my system devices so went back into the BIOS and found chipset features setup found that their was a sound chip there so disabled that now all it sems is that I have in my devices are Sound Blaster Audio PCI and Sound Blaster Audio PCI Legacy Device.
So checked out playback options everything is checked and like I said all sound works fine except when I go to use Quick time. I downloaded another copy of that and it is updated. Also have shockwave Flash downloaded and still no sound however if I go into a news broadcast can pick up those sounds.
My sound card is Sound Blaster 16PCI Creative.
I did get the sounds once in the games and card progtrammes but once I went out of internet and back in can`t get it again.
I am using 98 second edition windows.
I have had a problem with my software disk for the Soun d Blaster though as it says it cannot install the uninstall programme and it tends to freeze sometimes duiring the installation. Do hopw someone has an answer for me. Thanks

Its been awhile since I reported in on my problem.
I have finally got the sound card installed properly and so far the sound works fine in all area except with macromedia flash I can see the animation but not hear the sound.
I use the latest version of internet explorer. My server for the internet is 3web which is a Canadian server. The reason I am saying this as I have used another server which is a freebe and is Juno and I can get sounds and animations with that one. I also have used a local server and I can get the sounds and animations with it. It seems to be a puzzle to me why I can`t get it with my 3web. I can`t ask them as they do not have a technical place to call.
Sometimes when I go in on my internet I get frozen and the message is that msgsrv32(not responding). I have looked that up and get lots of different reasons so am not sure what I should do about it does anyone know any answers to that. Thanks

Well I got it fixed apparently my sound and animations that my internet server were using conflicted with the macromedia at least the new one. So once I turned their sounds off am now able to get macromedia. I do thank anyone who read my messages and tried to help. I appreciate you.
