We have installed the Netscape 7.02 version. We are facing problems with Profiles. The profiles which are seen in the .mozilla directory are not all displayed in the available profiles while launching the Netscape.
So If I create a profile called "XYZ" the next time I will see the profile under /.mozilla directory but when launching the Netscape this profile is not made available to me.
has anyone seen this problem before? Or can provide any information on this matter?

    Regards,
    Prajna

    Welcome to the Forum, prajna!

    Hi prajna,

The newly created Profiles do not show up in the Profile Manager? Do you get an error, or are you taken to Netscape, as if this is a new install? Give me as many details as you can to make it easier to understand and troubleshoot your issues.

    Thanks!

    Hi Ramona,

    Thanks for replying.

There is no problem while creating profiles. we can create profiles and also work on them without any errors. But the problem is seen once you close the Netscape and open it the next time. The problem is as follows...

The problem which we are facing is that say I create 5 profiles in Netscape 7.02. The next time anyone opens the same netscape he should see all the 5 profiles in the "Available Profiles ".
But this is not happening, even though we can see all the profiles exsisting in ./mozilla/.. directory. It is not shown in the "Available Profile ".

So in short today I work on the Netscape and create a profile called "Prajna ". I work on it today & then close it .Tommorrow when I open the Netscape it will first pop open the Manage Profile window in which all the Avalibale profiles are seen. In "Available Profiles ", the profile "Prajna" is not seen.....so I would be forced to create another profile to work..... The profile "Prajna" is seen in the ./mozilla directory though.

So my problem would be that I cannot access my profile "Prajna" as it is not shown in the available profiles ....so i lose my profile and have to create one more...
This problem is not there for all profiles it is seen only intermittently for some profiles.

Any idea what the problem could be??

    Regards,
    Prajna

    prajna,

Assuming that you make backup copies of your Profiles, have you tried replacing the prefs.js file, when the newly created Profile is not available in the Profile Manager?

Using prajna as the example: when the Profile Manager opens, and the prajna Profile is not in view, click on "Create Profile ". In the "Enter New Profile Name" field, type in "prajna ". Also ensure that the path to the Profile is correct, and if not click on "Choose Folder" and correct the path.

If this doesn't work, then try changing the name of the prajna Profile.

Once you have the prajna Profile working:
Right click the Desktop icon for the prajna Profile
    Select: Properties
    Click on the "Shortcut" tab
At the end of the "Target" field add this command line switch: -p prajna
Your "Target" path will be similar to this:
    "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\Netscp.exe" -p prajna

This will bypass the Profile Manager

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

    netscape 7.1

I always gets registration page when close and startup netscape 7.1. Though I try to register it never succeed. After that all my profile information is lost (bookmarks, mail settings, filter rules... etc). Under mozilla/profiles directory, it creates a new profile starting with name default-?? whenever I close and startup netscape. Is there anyway I can avoid the registration page and retain my profile and mail setting information. I have netscape 4.7 also installed.

Thanks in advance for the help..
