i've recently bought a dvd-r\rw drive. i've installed roxio ecdc 6 basic on my computer. i've already upgraded everything. The problem is when i go to dvd builder, and try to burn my dvd the burn menu shows up and i can't select my drive. It's all grayed out. Can anyone please tell me how can i fix this problem?

Including the Roxio software? - if your burner is one of the latst models just possible that that the bundled version doesn't recognise it.

Is the drive working OK in other respects?

It plays cd's alright. There's another problem. When i go to classic creator, and try to put the video on disk and record. It says that there is no disk in drive, but i put a disk in.

Back to basics for a start ....

Uninstall the dvd drive through Device Manager (Which OS BTW - XP, 98?)

Uninstall the writing software theough Add/Remove Programs

Reboot and let Windows find the drive and reinstall the software.

    Hi merlinone,

    Some suggestions:

If you have other burning programs on your system, like Ahead Nero, uninstall them. You may have to uninstall and reinstall the Roxio program again after.

Check for a firmware update for your drive from the drive manufacturers website.

Thanks but i've already solved the problem. It turns out that the dvd-rw discs i bought weren't compatible with the drive, and had to buy new ones.
