I need to know what is the best way to lock certain folders. My main concern is the folder where I keep all my pictures from the digital camera. I don't want one of the children looking at the pictures and deciding that THEY don't like it and then deleting it! Of course, I would rather have something to download for free from the internet, but I need something that is real simple to understand :) If anyone knows of a good program I am willing to purchase it as long as I can understand it!

    Thanks

Hi Kimberlee, There are many free apps on the internet that will allow you
to password protect a folder. Do a search eg for Folder protect.
There are some on this page. but I do not know or use them :
    Security stuff
    regards

I managed to save a copy of the File Buddy encryptor before it vanished (I think it was a matter of the name having been taken by others). It's a free, small, encrytption program:

The free "Cryptainer LE" looks similar:

My experience with these programs is that they sometimes require a lot of time to encrypt/decrypt and you may find that time too long. You can simplify the type of encryption used to speed it up---the better the encryption, the longer the calculations.

Alternatively, you could simply bury the folder somewhere, make it hidden in properties, and then hide hidden folders in Folder Properties (at least for a backup copy of the folder).
