Last week my computer kept freezing, so I unstalled and reinstalled Windows 98. My computer works fine now, except is it not recognizing my Network Interface Card (which it did before I reinstalled windows). I followed the directions suggested to a previous poster. I went to Device Manager and clicked update driver. Windows couldn't find anything on my hard drive, my restoration disk, or the internet software disk (which has ethernet on it, becuase I found it). So, I am a lost on what else I can do to get my computer to recognize my Ethernet card. I deleted the ? beside the Network adaptors, which I believe was part of the problem. I use cable broadband for internet use the they have checked my connection and pinged my modem, both of which are fine. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi mnbloomington
Welcome to the boards! Any chance you can take the side off the tower and see what kind of card it is? If we have a name for it...perhaps we can track down a driver?

    no see nic card

    i don't uninstall/reinstall operating systems.

every time i've loaded 98/98se/format c:/s, i've had to use the disk for the nic card in the machine after deleting the reference in dm, either for the nic card or an unknown device with the yellow exclamation point and then going to control panel/add hardware, letting it do the install/reboot/confirm it's right in dm and use the internet connection wizard to setup the internet connection, importing the oe/outlook address book and then you can play.

    giving up

The power cord to my moniter now has a short in it. I have already decided to buy a new computer. I need one anyway. Dell has a good deal going now so in the next couple of weeks that is what I am going to do. So, my solution is to buy a new computer. I think I'll sell my current one. Still no nic card. Thanks for your help and everyone who e-mailed me.
