I goofed up my Kodak EasyShare software, and am now trying to get it back with a download from the Kodak web site. The download stops when an error message appears. " Unable to finish your task(Error code 1714x17x185220381x) A solution is offered, but not for this error. I have removed EasyShare from ADD/REMOVE and also used Clear Utility to clear out components but keep the photos, albums etc.. Their support message says that I may have to go to the Registry to resolve the issue. I would have to talk on the telephone for step by step instructions, but have a hearing problem, so this may be a chore. I've been in the Registry before, but need to know which items to remove etc..
    Thanks!
    Larry

I found an install tool that apparently uninstall easyshare including any registry values. This is worth a shot:
    http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/downloads/private/dln00007Clear3_0_Utility.jhtml

I don't know if you have clicked on and followed this download and install faq but here it is:
    http://faqs.kodak.com/EasyShare_Software_English/TFAQ2.shtm

While trying to find an alternate download option for you, I noticed that this is not a direct download [that allows you to download it and later install it at your own leisure] but is only offered as an auto-install. This means easyshare installs it for you. That makes all the suggestions in the above link all that more important, ie; Nothing running in the background that may interfere with the install particularly any Virus Program or Firewall. Your security settings must not be so high as to interfere. You must be logged in as Administrator. ...and so on. See previous link ^
NOTE*Oppsy: Admin login is geared toward "windows xp" but still may apply if any customized user profiles and policies have been applied to win98x so I'll leave the statement as is rather than edit it out.

Another possibility is that you may not have updated your MS-installer so...
Ordinarily error 1714 comes up on an install. Are you doing some type of auto-install from this softwares site.

    Perhaps this would help:
    Error 1714
Error 1714 is a Windows Installer error. If you receive this error, download and install the following file:
If you are running Windows 95/98/ME:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/WindowsInstaller/Install/2.0/W9XMe/EN-US/InstMsiA.exe

    Hi again Larry,

It's been a few days since I've heard from you. How are you coming along on this? Any progress? Please update your post.

    Hi,
Thanks for all of your suggestions. Before I received any replys, I contacted Kodak Support and after four days of help and lots of trials, I was finally able to clean out all of the old EasyShare components. They had some CLEAR downloads which eventually did the trick. Sorry about not getting back sooner, but I was all wrapped up with the Support group from Kodak.
    Many thanks!

Thanks a bunch for updating and I'm glad you were able to get this ironed out. I'm not quite sure what you mean by the term "CLEAR" downloads but as long as all is well we can call this a done deal.

    Your welcome. :)
